Louis XIV, the king who built Versailles, grew to hate the smell of it. Or rather he hated the smell of the people who also hated the smell of it.
Versailles stunk--and it stunk badly. For everyone at court who otherwise would have to endure the smells of this beautiful but odiferous palace, it was necessary to wear a lot of heavy perfume.
In his early years the king adored perfume. He loved the heavy scents of musk and civet and ambergris. But later on he reached a point where he could not stand the smell of the perfumes that kept the stink of his palace at bay.
Rather than endure a room full of perfumed courtiers, Louis XIV would demand that the windows be opened, which let in even more of stinky air from the courtyard. To solve this problem, the king decided to perfume the air itself by scenting the fountains outside with one of the few scents he could still stand--orange blossom.
Take a sniff of The Scented Fountain bar and you'll smell the same soft, sweet scents of orange blossoms so enjoyed by the Sun King.
And it's guaranteed that your bathroom will smell better than the best room at Versailles!
