It was crazy. What were they thinking?
Beginning in the early 1700s and continuing for more than 100 years, soap in Britain was taxed so heavily that it became a true luxury, affordable only to the very rich.
During this same Georgian period, titled and wealthy English women became aficionados of the French toilette--a ritual which included a daily washing in a basin.
Tucked away in the corner of her bedroom, the toilette table held a lady's mirror, makeup, skin preparations, and hair brushes. A second table would be placed next to it--a table just large enough for a basin, pitcher and a small, precious bar of soap.
Our elegant Georgian Charm soap recalls this period of the English toilette, a time when English soap was a rare and coveted treasure, even to the rich.
Delicately scented with fragrances of sweet pea, lily of the valley, and lilac, our Georgian Charm soap brings the perfect touches from the past to add a sense of richness to your modern day toilette.
