The man loved his gardens.
For all that he is known as the splendorous and shining Sun King, King Louis XIV loved to spend time in his gardens.
And we're not talking some botanical wonderland filled with rare plants--although that was present at Versailles as well.
This king loved his common vegetable and flower gardens with a passion and could be seen often in spirited conversation with his head gardener, discussing the care of the plants already in the ground and the acquisition of more.
He also loved his Orangerie, a movable orchard of hundreds of orange trees. In spring, they filled the air with the heavenly scent of orange blossoms, a scent the king loved all of his life. Even when his over-exposure to perfume made him despise almost all scents in his later years, he would love orange blossom until the day he died.
So in honor of the king who loved plants more than people, we created a soap especially for him--Le Jardin du Roi--embellished with fleurs de lys and scented with his beloved orange blossom, jasmine, and lilac.
We think he would have liked it.
